This week in local shopping, Nicole Richie launches her bohemian-chic line at Macy’s, Dessa celebrates her lipstick launch, men get their shopping fix with NorthernGRADE Men’s Market and Up Six Vintage celebrates 11 years with a sale.
Tuesday-Sunday: Up Six Vintage 11th Anniversary Sale
What: Vintage fiends beware, your pocketbook is about to get a lot lighter. Read at your own risk: Five dollar bins filled with vintage goodies galore, 30% off men’s and women’s fashions plus accessories and 20% off vintage jewelry at the Up Six Vintage 11th Anniversary Sale. If you aren’t drooling yet, new this year at the vintage sale is their first ever mid-century furniture and housewares section. By section, they mean a whole parking lot full of items.

Wednesday: Nicole Richie launches limited-edition line at Macy’s
What: From a peacock kaleidoscope to feather and deco chevron, you may feel like you are on an acid trip, but have no fear – it is just Nicole Richie’s collection Impulse for Macy’s. With maxis and asymmetrical skirts, to cropped tops and fitted jackets there is a silhouette for every body. Retro prints are a favorite of Richie’s and this collection is no exception. Jewel tones anchor the color palette, while gold and imperial blue hues create pops of color throughout the line. While Ms. Richie may be a starlet, her line is priced for the not-so-famous. It kicks off with a launch event on Wednesday at Macy’s Southdale, complete with informal modeling, sips, hors d’oeuvres and music.

Thursday: Gina Marie Vintage & Cocoon by Elizabeth Geisler Wholesale Sale

Saturday: Dessa Lipstick Launch
What: Though she’s known for her tomboy style, Doomtree emcee and wordsmith Dessa can rock a classic red lipstick like nobody’s business. With her namesake lipstick color for locally-made, vegan makeup line the Elixery, she’s giving you the chance to emulate her casual glamor. Best of all, Dessa will be donating her proceeds from the sale of the lipstick to educate and empower women in developing countries. She’s launching the lip color with a blowout bash at the Icehouse this weekend, where musical guests Aby Wolf and Ashley Gold will be backed by Dessa’s live ensemble of Dustin Kiel, Sean McPherson and Joey Van Phillips. Hip-hop/jazz improv collective Coloring Time (whose core members include No Bird Sing’s Joe Horton, Graham O’Brien and Bobby Mulrennan, Peter Wolf Crier’s Peter Pisano and Casey O’Brien from Face Candy) will round out the night. Cover is $5 before 11 pm.

Saturday-Sunday: NorthernGRADE Men’s Market
What: Guys get their shopping fix this weekend with the return of the NorthernGRADE Men’s Market, a bi-annual, two-day pop-up market geared toward hardy, American-made basics. Heritage brands such as Red Wing Heritage, Faribault Woolen Mills Co., Pierrepont Hicks Tie Co., and Duluth Pack will be on hand, as will offerings from local men’s shops Askov Finlayson and BlackBlue. There’s something for the ladies, too – Pierrepont Hicks offshoot Mrs. P. Hicks will have her handmade leather chukkas, wallabees and desert boots. Primo shopping time should be from 4 to 7 pm on Saturday, when DJ Jonathan Ackerman will provide tunage.

What: After a trip to Tuscon, Minneapolis jewelry designer Robyne Robinson of ROX Jewelry is opening up her studio for California Building’s First Thursdays event. The former Fox 9 news anchor is known for creating unique and dramatic looks made of natural elements such as wood, shells, fine metals and semi-precious stones for both men and women. Be sure to swing by before Robinson jets off to Greece in search of new materials.
