Saturday: It’s a Man’s World Fashion Event
What
: See just what it takes to be a well-dressed man, complete with sharp ensembles and classy accessories. Local retailers as well as national designers are collaborating to celebrate the subculture of men’s vintage and modern as Wilhelmina Minneapolis models sport the looks. Trends will be represented by national designers J. Cheikh, Madgods, Ninh Nguyen and Sweet 1985 as well as local shops like Elsworth, Studiiyo23 and William Park. VIP guests will have runway seating, get samples from restaurants and vendor access to guests. In advance, tickets are $15 or $30 for VIP and at the door are $20 or $40 for VIP. Saturday: Local Artist Jewelry Mart & Rectangle Designs
What
: If you still need ideas for Mother’s Day, or simply want to treat yourself to a gift, come see and shop jewelry by more than 20 artists. While you sift through the unique pieces of artisan jewelry, enjoy tastings by Craftmade Toffee. Walker Art Center members may enjoy a preview and mimosas at 10 a.m. and should RVSP at membership@walkeart.org or 612-375-7655. Sarah Nassif of Rectangle Designs will showcase her spring line with floral-influenced handmade prints on t-shirts, bags, and scarves. She uses upcycled materials and water-based inks and the proceeds will go toward Walker art and education programs. Walker members benefit with a 10% discount on her products.

When longtime makeup artist Julie Swenson sold her Smart & Chic Beauty Lounge last year, it wasn’t all for naught. Yesterday, she announced the opening of a new enterprise – her own beauty learning annex and boutique. The annex will serve as a haven for beauty education to anyone from seasoned artists to students, and bridal parties to everyday women. continue to carry some of her Beauty Lounge product lines such as Tokyo Milk, Love and Toast, and celebrity cult lines such Sara Happ, and Jouer Cosmetics, plus her own eye essentials makeup line, Stella. Saturday’s grand opening includes a trunk show by Bethany Lorelle fashion accessories; a free cosmetic bag with $35 purchase of Stella Makeup; and 20% off all Tokyo Milk, Love & Toast and Sara Happ products.

Sunday: Eco Inspirations – Responsible Fashion Show & Benefit
What
: Fashion meets eco-friendly function at the second annual Responsible show, where fabulous designs will display the ethical efforts of fair trade, transforming granola-like outfits into ethically sound but aesthetically pleasing ensembles. Formerly a fundraiser for victims of the Haiti Earthquake, Sol Inspirations has dedicated their focus to fair trade fashion. See fresh, chic looks from more than 15 designers by CounterCouture, Design Collective, Jenny Carle and headliner line You and Me, by Tim and Thom Navaro, Katy Vereide and Deborah Block. You and Me will ease your conscience by featuring a reconstruction of clothing showing “socially responsible eye candy.” Support these local ethical designers in the decorated space loaned for a day by Bespoke Hair Artisans.
